PALETTES Here are several palettes which were designed as a result of requests by individual artists who had been unable to find what they needed. You are welcome to try them - should they prove unsuitable, you can return them within 30 days for a full refund exclusive of shipping costs. All these palettes are thermoformed with High Impact PolyStyrene in a unique gentler thermal process in our shop in White Springs, USA. Our shopping cart will show you the full cost including shipping before requesting credit card information. Some of the links to contributions by artists may show a security warning because they are not encoded however they will not receive any information from you. I am often asked for help in choosing a palette, so here are some ideas: 1. Determine the well sizes that match the brushes you use. To help we have a sampler of all 6 well liners for $5 2. Determine the amount of colors you expect to need. |
THREE 15" PALETTES - 85, 42 & 24 WELL
| 15" - 85 WELL
PALETTE This 15" palette gives the watercolor artists a lot of colors - up to 85. Each well is about 5/8" x 1-1/16" x 5/8" deep and will hold 8 ml (small tube size) or a single half-pan (see note) and accepts brushes up to 1". There's an area just outside the wells to write the name of the color with a fine felt marker. The center has 3 mixing areas separated by a slight raise. Molded from 0.12" thick plastic for durability and a substantial feel. It comes with a removable mixing insert which can be washed separately or kept with its unfinished painting. Also a lid which provides 9 additional mixing areas. Also available for this palette is a carousel to allow it to spin and individual well liners that will give you flexibility with your colors. What I wanted you to see was the labeling method I used. With the use of a Brother P-Touch label machine, I was able to use a very small font to identify each paint color and if I need to add or change anything, the label will peel right off and re-adhere where needed. I've also found water doesn't damage the labels as they're laminated. The adhesion between the plastic of your palette and the label is very secure at the same time allowing removal. Much better than marking directly on the plastic with a Sharpie. I've used Gina's method of removable half pans too. I'm a happy camper. TEMPLATES FOR OUR PALETTES This idea thanks to Linda Colvin. She wrote: "I put 90 pound watercolor paper, trimmed to letter size, in the printer, and printed out the template. I will write the color name/ number below the chart, so I will be able to see what each color will look like applied to paper as a reference when I paint." 15" - 42 WELL PALETTE This large round palette was designed for a watercolor portrait artist in Texas.
Each of the 42 paint wells is about 1-1/8" x 1-1/2" x 1" deep and will hold
16 ml of paint (a medium size tube) and accept brush sizes up to 1-1/2". There's an
area outside the wells which is just wide enough to write the names of the colors with a
fine felt marker. The center has a removable insert with 3 mixing areas separated by a
slight raise. Molded from 0.12" thick plastic for durability and a substantial feel.
It comes with a lid which provides 9 additional mixing areas. Also there's a carousel that

NEW
15" - 24 SLOPING WELL PALETTE
This palette was produced at the request of an Australian artist and instructor, Louise
De Masi. She writes "I’ve been using the palette today and I absolutely love it.
It’s perfect for my needs. I filled it full of my favourite colours and I’ve
been using it with my latest painting.
I normally use those little ceramic sloping well palettes that don’t have a lip or
ridge on the wells like your palette does. What I normally do is put the paint at the top
of the well or the highest point of the well and then I give the paint a squirt of water
and the water falls to the bottom of the well. I like to do that because the paint that I
squirt out goes hard after a little while and that’s when I like to paint with it. I
can use the watery paint at the bottom of the well or I can wipe a wet brush over the hard
paint at the top to get dark pigment".

WELL PALETTE Your response to the 42-well palette was rewarding and surprise ... we got requests from some watercolor artists for even more large color wells. We heard you and here it is! It has 64 large 1-1/8" x 1-3/4" x 1" deep paint wells. Molded from 0.12" thick plastic for durability and a substantial feel. The set includes a tight fitting lid divided into 9 mixing areas. Also included is a removable mixing insert which can be washed separately or kept with an unfinished painting and a fresh clean insert used to begin again. Extra inserts are sold in packs of three. | 12" - 12 WELL PALETTE The idea for this palette came from Pam Carriker a mixed media artist, instructor and author who wrote "I've been searching for a color wheel palette that has twelve wells for each color on the color wheel and three mixing wells in the center to add white, black and gray for mixing the tint, tone and shades of each color". 12 LARGE WELL PALETTE
I live on a boat with limited storage, and must completely put away my watercolor
supplies every time I use them. Since I like to lay down multiple washes in a painting,
this has been a challenge! I’ve tried several solutions, and none of them have worked
to my satisfaction. Making washes in smaller mixing pallets means I don’t have room
to make enough at once, and it’s easy to spill. I have tried butcher block pans but
must waste any leftover as I have no way to store big pans without spilling. It has been

Here is a useful idea from June Arias who wrote: "I love the Paletteboard and made some modifications I would like to share. I mostly use pan watercolors and to accommodate my pans to your Paletteboard, I purchased Loctite Fun-Tak and cut the enclosed strips into little squares and inserted them into the top slots of the paletteboard. The Fun-Tak will not dry out and holds the pans in place and above the wash. You can literally hold the Paletteboard upside down and the pans stay in place. See the pictures!!! Regards, June" |

It is perfect to use at a desk, because you need a good surface so that you don't pick up woodgrain, etc. from your desk or table when doing CP. My old early 80s drafting table has many nick in the surface for example and you cannot draw on it. Other drawing boards are too big or small, or way too heavy. This one is portable, you can prop it up at any angle with anything to paint on. It beats gatorboard since it is much more sturdy, waterproof, and does not bend or break easily. It is better than plexiglass because it is thicker, and has nice rounded corners, which is great when you do want to use it on your lap while watching TV or something". I paint wet into wet watercolors usually without taping down the paper and the wet paper adheres fabulously to the smooth side of your boards." |

I can store the different sizes together. That feature alone beats trying to find what I want in a mason jar or bucket full of brushes! And I can store other things on it as well, like my pencils, markers, ink pens that I use for ink and wash paintings, and X-acto knives etc". |
